  Affect health friday finds

This Friday I've put together a nice little combo of glowing cheeks, amazing BBQ weather recipes, and a podcast that will rock your world. Enjoy!

1. RMS - lip2cheek in Curious

After quite a few years of trial and error with make-up exploration I think I can finally say with confidence that I think I have my "holy grail" staples down pat.  Essentially a go-to concealer, highlighter, mascara, brow gel, eyeliner, and BLUSH.  A glorious, glorious golden tangerine blush.  I know it might sound a bit intense, but if you knew me, you would know I'm not a heavy make-up wearer and most days I actually don't wear make-up at all.  That being said, when I do this has been my absolute go to skin accentuator (if that's a word...).

I've gotten compliment after compliment on my "glowing cheeks" and I would be lying if I said it was all me!  This formula is super creamy and easy to apply and blend with your fingertips.  I am lighter with it during the winter months, and get a little more heavy handed in the summer (I tend to get quite dark) but even during my palest months it's so complementary + natural looking.  No oompa loompa here, no sir.

I have been a tangerine blush lover for quite some time now and previous to discovering RMS's lip2cheek I was using Marc Jacob's pressed powder blush in Shameless (also a golden tangerine).  I liked it enough to buy two rounds of it but after playing around with RMS's all natural cream version and knowing it had a base of coconut oil, shea butter, castor seed oil, and other ridiculously skin nourishing ingredients the decision to switch was an easy one.  Not to mention this bad boy lasts alllll day.  You can pick this up online or in store at your friendly neighbourhood Detox Market.

This is how it shows up on my skin which is olive and tanned right now but you can see it can be blended out really nicely.  Keep in mind this is a universally flattering colour so don't be shy!

2. The Mind Palace - A Podcast

On a recent jaunt to Montreal to visit a dear friend I found myself on a bus for 6 hours alone with my thoughts and sick of my music selection.  A rather interesting predicament to be in. Enter: the rich and wild world of podcasts!  I've started gathering a few of my favourite ones (I will share them in later posts), but by far the one that I've really enjoyed is The Mind Palace.

In their words:

"The Mind Palace is a weekly podcast which explores what it means to live a well-curated life. We discuss minimalism, living intentionally, and applied philosophy."

Easy to listen to with beautiful insights on leading a life of purpose and intent, they have completely won me over.  A great one to start with is their discussion on SUCCESS + FAILURE

3. Three Amazing Food Blogs

  • Gimme Some Oven: Easy to prepare, bursting with flavour, AND highly nutritious options are what Ali from Gimme Some Oven strives to offer.  I stumbled upon her site through a Pinterest wormhole and have been hooked on the multitude of different flavour profiles and healthy options she has created.

  • With Food + Love:Sherrie has created an amazing resource full of vegetarian, seasonally inspired, naturally gluten-free recipes. She states: "I want to challenge a seasoned home cook, but also make a kitchen novice feel totally at home. I use simple everyday pantry staples in unexpected ways. My recipes don’t require multiple flours or obscure gums. Just real food, reimagined".  Sherrie - girl you have succeeded!!

  • Oh, How Civilized :  Jee has created a GORGEOUS blog devoted to her love of refined experiences with a focus on afternoon tea, food and travel (naturally you can sense my excitement). Her r ecipes section is filled with tea sandwich ideas and matcha and tea-based recipes. The  Matchamisu (oh yes that is MATCHA Tarimisu!!) is the most popular recipe on the site with the  BLT Tea Sandwich and  Matcha Truffles following close behind.

And that's it! I'd love to hear if you try out any recipes or have a chance to tune into the lovely ladies of The Mind Palace!
